If you enjoy gypsy-jazz and sinti music in particular then you`ll definitely want to give the "titi winterstein quintet" a listen. Titi winterstein made his debut in the jazz scene in 1972 at the age of 15 with the "haens`che weiss quintet" and by the age of twenty one had formed his own band. The music they played ranged from the swing-style jazz of django reinhardt to traditional gypsy music with hungarian and russian roots and included swing waltzes with lyrics in the traditional gypsy language.
There was always plenty of room for extemporisation, individual expression and personal composition. Lulu reinhardt and holzmanno winterstein had been long time companions, both of whome were able to perform sensationally as either soloists or in an ensemble situation. Kiegelo reinhardt was responsible for the basic harmonic and rhythmic movements and bass player rigo reinhardt kept the bottom end firmly in control with solid bass lines.
Titi winterstein and haens`che weiss have colaborated on five recordings to date. The fifth record earned them a highly esteemed award from the german record industry in 1978. Since then, titi winterstein has recorded 4 albums of his own. Through extensive touring of eastern europe and the united states, the titi winterstein quintet has become a celebrated symbol of the gypsy-jazz music of the german sinti.
