| Maro Djipen - Unser Leben - Our Life |
With the current production "MARO DJIPEN", their fifth release, a new chapter has begun in a career that has spanned 16 years with changing line ups of the internationally successful TITI WINTERSTEIN QUINTETT.
Five outstanding Gipsy musicians with different musical experience have brought their "know how" together with a concept for which TITI WINTERSTEIN, the musical leader of the band, is responsible.
The result is fifteen titles that cover the entire spectrum of German gipsy music: swing, jazz, waltzes influenced by French musette, gipsy music with Hungarian roots, Bossa Nova, and also a title that has been sung in the gipsy language "Romanes".
Just as in Jewish Klezmer music there are various influences that have left their mark on today's form of gipsy music as presented by the Sinti. This factor determines the choice of a pretty melody an interesting harmonic and an exciting, provocative structure.
The rhythmic patterns are based upon their incredible musical sensitivity and a belief in the gipsy life-style. In short, they project a positive feeling for life, something that should appeal to everybody. Based upon this readiness to accept many external musical influences, the musical culture of the Sintis is constantly evolving.
This is probably the reason, why the great YEHUDI MENUHIN invited the TITI WINTERSTEIN QUINTETT to play in Brussels at the Cirque Royal as part of the gala event, "All The World's Violins" in October 1993. With the violin as the common denominator, it was thought that through a series of these type of events, different musical cultures could meet. YEHUDI MENUHIN wanted to give the classical music world a chance to open itself to other influences.
